“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” ~ Isaiah 55:10-11

During prayer at church today, these verses were mentioned.  They stuck with me, so I thought I would look them up before I started writing this evening.

The depth and magnitude of the promise in this passage is almost startling.  Rain and snow fall regularly, watering the earth and yielding food.  God’s Word is the same – going out and producing a return.  However, we must keep in mind that it is His desire and His purpose that is being achieved.  Not ours.

The truth is, we don’t know what that purpose is for everyone.  Most of the time, we can’t even hazard an accurate guess.  Which means our job is to do everything we can to spread God’s Word, so that He can accomplish what He wants to with it.
