“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” ~ James 1:17
Have you ever had one of those days that, for whatever reason, just seemed easier than other days?
That’s how my day today has been. Now, don’t get me wrong – I’m not complaining at all. I’m just not sure why it is that today has been so much more peaceful than usual. I still had a long to-do list. I had errands to run. I had work to do. I even went in to work (on a day with no meetings, an usual occurrence), which proved to be a waste of time, as I couldn’t find what I had driven all the way across town to look for.
But here I sit, calm and relaxed. Usually, by this point in the day I’m ready to lay on my face with exhaustion, all the while knowing that there is still a lot left to do.
But what I’m really thankful for is that I’m not trying to figure out what it is I’m missing. I can actually just enjoy this moment. And enjoy what a gift that a day like today is.
All too often, I think I look for giant miracles in my life and am disappointed when I don’t see them all the time. What I’m missing is the gift of the moment – good health, good friends, wonderful family – that God has blessed me with.
As this verse in James teaches us, God doesn’t change like shifting shadows. He is always good to His children. I hope as you reflect upon your day and week, you can see all the good and perfect gifts God has bestowed upon you in your own life.
